A to Z Blogging Challenge: V is for Verification

That finish line is so close that I can almost touch it. This has been difficult and although I enjoy the A to Z Blogging Challenge, I would highly recommend that anyone else thinking about doing it next year only does it on one blog. Doing it on two sites has been a bit of a stretch, to say the least. I will maybe stick to doing it on Broken Heels next year. Today I'm writing about V for Verification, something that is crucial to the success of your Nanowrimo challenge.

One question that I am asked when I tell non-writers about the Nanowrimo challenge is, how do people get away with not cheating? How can you tell if someone has genuinely completed the challenge and they haven't just copy-pasted a whole bunch of text from other sources and called it a novel? Well, that's a really good question and one that has a simple answer. There's verification software and it's available to use from the last few days of the challenge.

All you do is copy and paste the novel you've written, which should be around 50,000 words or more, and that will verify that you have written a proper novel, and haven't just copied the same two or three paragraphs to make up 50,000 words. It will also verify the word count that you've entered into the site is correct and you really have reached that important target of 50,000 words.

It's up to each individual if they go through the verification process or not. It's actually really good to do it because then you get this little stripe under your name that says, "Winner." And by the time you've written your novel in a month, you'll need that encouragement. If you have a blog and want to write about the challenge, it's also a good idea to verify because then you get special graphics that you can use on your blog that those who haven't completed the challenge don't get.

Have you ever won Nanowrimo and not verified? Let us know in the comments why not.

Tomorrow I'm writing about W for Word Count here on this site and today on Rock Paper Spirit I'm writing V is for Very Irresistible. For pretty much the whole month I have tried to avoid talking about specific products and brand names because that's not allowed on the A to Z Blogging Challenge, but today I really wanted to talk about one product. It's not advertising because there's no affiliate links and I haven't been paid to do this. It's just something that I used to own and loved and I want it again.
