A to Z of Nanowrimo: S is for Stress

Welcome to the final (full) week of my A to Z Blogging Challenge for 2019! If this is your first visit, you might not be aware that this is the A to Z of Nanowrimo, that writing challenge that takes place every November. I'm now onto writing S for Stress, which I think is something that we can all relate to. If you want to check out some of my other posts before you read this, I've got an index page where you can navigate all around my challenge. Just click here.

So, S for Stress, eh? Who among us hasn't felt extreme stress at some point in their lives? The difference with this particular stress is that it's self-inflicted. We're choosing to put ourselves in a stressful situation for the sake of stretching ourselves and completing a challenge, and that can only be a good thing. Or can it? I'll be honest. There have been years when I've tackled Nanowrimo and haven't enjoyed it at all because the stress takes all the fun out of it - even though I've chosen to put myself in that situation.

Somebody taught me a stress coping technique recently. They said that anxiety and stress give you the same physical symptoms as excitement. For example, butterflies, feeling slightly queasy, sweaty palms etc. If you feel those through stress or anxiety, just tell yourself that you're excited and it will be easier to cope. The jury is still out on whether this works or not, but I'm going to give it a go.

I previously wrote a health post on this challenge, which I think covers everything I want to say about how to keep yourself healthy during the challenge and the part about mental health is particularly relevant. It's so important to keep taking care of yourself, no matter how demanding this challenge is and no matter how much you just want to bury yourself in writing. I know there are a lot of people who don't do that so they might not get it, but I am one of the people who will lose themselves in writing at times and forget to eat. If you keep your mind and body health and practise self-care during November, it will be so much easier to complete the challenge and keep your stress levels manageable.

Tomorrow I am writing about T for Time, while over on Rock Paper Spirit today, I'm writing about S for Selfie With A Giraffe for my A to Z of my Wish List. It's just a silly post that I thought might be fun to write. Plus, it's also true.
