A to Z Blogging Challenge: C is for Caffeine
It's now Day 3 of the A to Z Blogging Challenge. If you haven't read my previous posts, you might not know that I'm currently participating in this challenge which is comprised of 26 posts, all with a general A to Z theme and a more specific theme for each individual participant. Mine is Nanowrimo. We get Sundays off, by the way. I've scheduled a poetry post for that day. Today I'm writing about C is for Caffeine.
Caffeine isn't something I indulge in myself. I can't handle coffee, although I do enjoy the taste and my tea bags are always decaf. I even buy decaf green tea. I know I'm not getting all the antioxidants by drinking decaf, but I'm still pretty pleased to be getting some of them. When I eat chocolate, I am always mindful that a high cocoa content equals a night of lost sleep. But, there are plenty of writers who find caffeine really useful, especially when they're under pressure.
I've heard lots of people say they can't function without coffee in the morning. I don't think I could function with it, if I'm honest. And a lot of writers count coffee as an essential ingredient to their writing. It engages their creativity, gets them fired up and motivated and it's always nice to drink something warm and soothing, isn't it?
My hot drink of choice when writing is hot chocolate, which still has a small amount of caffeine in it, although probably not enough for a coffee addict to notice! I'm fully in agreement with using caffeine to get a writer through Nanowrimo. It not only gets your brain going, but it can be handy for staying awake to meet those deadlines. There are so many other ways to get caffeine though. Some of the ones I haven't already mentioned are:
- Guarana berries
- PMS medications
- Some painkillers
- Breakfast cereals like Quaker Cocoa Blasts
Do you ever use caffeine to help you write? Share your stories below in the comments box. If you have an A to Z Challenge going too, remember to leave your link so I can visit and read your posts. Also, don't forget that I have another blog with an A to Z challenge too. It's called Rock Paper Spirit and my posts over there are about the A to Z of my wish list. Today I'm talking about Cyprus. Tomorrow, I'll be writing about D for Daydreams.
