A to Z Blogging Challenge: F is for Forums
I made it through the first week of the A to Z Blogging Challenge! And it was a difficult one. Honestly, this has been the most stressful week for a while. It was like the universe waited until I wanted to do a fun challenge to pile a load of crap onto me. So I feel like I have really achieved something by sticking with this because believe me, I was tempted to give up a few days ago. I couldn’t do it though. I couldn’t fall at the first hurdle, no matter how high that hurdle was. Today is F for Forums.
For those who have never participated in NaNoWriMo before, the forums are intended to help the challenge become more social. They also provide a lot of information about the challenge and about events near you that you can go to.
I’ve never used the forums properly. Like many people, I dip in and out of them, especially at the start of November and introduce myself in my local group’s section of the forums. My local area, by the way, is Glasgow, even though I live outside the city. I initially thought the closest group to me would be “Everywhere Else” in Scotland but that was full of islanders and rural areas that were nowhere near me.
There have been a couple of years when I have logged in at the start of November or even in October, determined to use the forums every day during the challenge, but I see a post from someone I know in real life and I get a bit shy. I know I shouldn’t let that stop me, but it does. I get self-conscious. And then NaNoWriMo becomes a solitary experience again.
I hear stories about people who have met other writers on the forums and they end up becoming great friends. I would really love that to happen to me. It won’t happen if I don’t use them though!
Do you have a story about someone you met in the NaNoWriMo forums?
Today over on my lifestyle blog, Rock Paper Spirit, I’m writing a post called F is for Four Feet Ten. What could that be about? Tomorrow is our day off from the challenge and I’ll be sharing a poetry post instead. This is all new to me, so please be kind with any criticism! On Monday I’ll be back with G is for Grammar.
